Hello,

I'm Kurtis.

A graduate computer scientist with a keen interest in web technologies.

Lets talk.

About me

Hey there! I'm Kurtis, a computer science graduate fresh out of The University Of Hull. Currently living in Hull (you can often find me in the Makerspace). I develop amazing websites and cutting-edge web applications... I'm also a massive keyboard nerd.

While at university, I interned at a Shopify Plus agency, Strawberry. While there I worked with countless high-end clientele such as BarryM Cosmetics, Lil Packaging and Rio Health.

The current stack I'm using:

What have I been up to?

Web Developer - Wren Kitchens

September 2020 - Present

Working with the Symfony framework to develop on an established codebase. The role required creating new complex features, fixing errors within the code and creating new database structures. The work taught the absolute fundementals of working with a legacy code base and developed my knowledge on full stack languages.

Web Developer - Freelance

October 2019 - September 2020

Supported my studies with freelance development work for Strawberry,a northern Shopify Plus agency. My work included creating e-commerce websites for clients with semantic HTML, Liquid and SCSS. Continuing to freelance for other clients.

Intern Web Developer - Strawberry

June 2019 - September 2019

During this internship, I worked with e-commerce platforms (predominantly Shopify Plus). Typically, I was tasked with fixing bugs, creating new and additional templates for global clients, as well as creating interactive features and content using JavaScript (ES6) and Liquid markup language.

Course Instructor - Code First Girls

February 2019 - May 2019

This role saw me volunteer my skills and knowledge to support women to help increase diversity within technological roles. This course helped women break into digital industries, teaching them how to code with a multitude of languages, including designing and coding a website from scratch.

Projects

AST Dashboard

This was my dissertation project. The project provided a centralised AST (Academic Support Tutor) dashboard solution to the university that it previously did not possess.

Breakout Game

This side project was to replicate the famous smash hit, ‘Breakout’ created by Nolan Bushnell and Steve Bristow.

Computer Vision

Using MatLab, this task was to correctly identify starfish on a range of backgrounds, this required the use of image manipulation to achieve this.

Data Mining

As part of a Data Mining module, my objective was to mine and classify medical data regarding how healthy someone's heart is, and predict whether or not they may experience a premature death.

Digital Checkup

Digital Checkup was a project created by myself and Nathaniel Read for the Sustainable Computing module. The module helped teach the importance of online security.

Location Station

In the second year of my degree, the coursework for Web Technologies was a PHP application, this was designed to track and store user’s location for attendance.

.Net Core API

This project was part of Distributed Systems, a module which taught how computers coordinate their actions. This application was building an API with .Net Core.

Pathfinding Software

This involved developing software to find the quickest route from one node to another, but with the challenge of the nodes having different transport types such as bus, car, boat, etc.
